Petersfield - where is it?

Petersfield is a town of 14,000, uniquely located entirely within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in Hampshire, UK, soon to be at the heart of the proposed new South Downs National Park. If you're not a resident, and would like to visit please click here to learn more.

Passionate about Petersfield? Help to promote the Town Design Statement.

Planning the future, to enhance and sustain our town. Detailed design guidance for Petersfield, being developed through independent local community involvement.

The completed Petersfield TDS which was edited by Navigate Design in Petersfield is now available - click on the Town Design Statement link at the top of this page for your copy of the approved pdf version for download.  There are hard copies available in the library, Town Hall and also in the District Council Offices at Penns Place.

The next move is to consider how to keep this document alive and also if even more local and more detailed studies are of benefit. Such studies could perhaps look at, for example, how to rejuvenate Lavant Street. We are also keeping an eye on how the joint venture between EHDC and the South Downs National Park is progressing in relation to the TDS.

The main aims of a Town Design Statement, which reflects the views of the local community, are to:

  • Assist in improving town facilities for all age groups.
  • Provide guidance to landowners, developers and architects before they prepare proposals.
  • Improve the quality new development by making it easier for the planning authorities to seek improvements in applications.
  • Raising local awareness on local design and environmental issues

The East Hampshire District Council has accepted adoption of the design guidelines of the Petersfield Town Design Statement (TDS) as 'non - statutory planning guidance'. This means that its advice should be considered when planning proposals for development in Petersfield and Sheet are decided.  During the process of preparing the TDS there have been many opportunities for the local community to participate through workshops, exhibitions, and helping to gather materials. Our timetable called for the Town Design Statement to be finished in the autumn of 2009. It has taken the committee an additional year which has ensured the completion of a top quality document.

Petersfield Tomorrow, a local community group, is managing the production of the Town Design Statement. Petersfield Tomorrow has no views of its own, is apolitical, and serves solely to reflect the views of the people of Petersfield. See http://www.petersfieldtomorrow.co.uk

For a better Petersfield Tomorrow - we need the views of EVERYONE in Petersfield.

2011 events

Petersfield Events 2011 were during this year run very succesfully by alternative organizers. This has kept the popular Food Festival in May and also the August festivities alive. We look forward to the 2012 versions of these events.

You will be able to learn more about the 2010 festivities at www.petersfieldevents.co.uk
