Planning the future, to enhance and sustain our town. Detailed design guidance for Petersfield, being developed through independent local community involvement.

The main aims of a Town Design Statement, which reflects the views of the local community, are to:
- Assist in improving town facilities for all age groups.
- Provide guidance to landowners, developers and architects before they prepare proposals.
- Improve the quality new development by making it easier for the planning authorities to seek improvements in applications.
- Raising local awareness on local design and environmental issues
We are aiming for the highest level of adoption, a supplementary planning document. This is a relatively new designation, and requires a number of steps, including the completion of a sustainability appraisal, to have been completed. During the process there will be many opportunities for the local community to participate through workshops, exhibitions, and helping to gather materials. Our draft timetable calls for the Town Design Statement to be finished in the autumn of 2009. It should then be adopted as a planning supplement in early 2010 by EHDC planning.
Petersfield Tomorrow, a local community group, is managing the production of the Town Design Statement. Petersfield Tomorrow has no views of its own, is apolitical, and serves solely to reflect the views of the people of Petersfield.
For a better Petersfield Tomorrow - we need the views of EVERYONE in Petersfield.
